Aibel secures $790m EPCI contract from Equinor
Aibel has secured a contract worth Nkr8bn ($790.8m) from Norway’s Equinor for modifications at the Hammerfest liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant located at Melkøya outside Hammerfest, Norway, related to the Snøhvit Future project.
The engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) contract, which is subject to governmental approval, is an option in the front-end engineering and design (FEED) contract that was awarded to Aibel in 2020.
Under the contract, Aibel will deliver two new processing modules related to the onshore compression and electrification of the Melkøya plant.
Aibel will also develop a new receiving station, which will supply power from onshore, and undertake integration work at the Melkøya plant.
The Hammerfest plant receives gas from the Snøhvit gas and condensate field, located in the central part of the Hammerfest basin in the southern Barents Sea, via a 143km pipeline.
The modifications are part of the Snohvit Future project, which aims to reduce emissions and extend the operational life of the Snohvit gas field.
The Snohvit Future project involves the development of the Snøhvit Onshore Compression and Snøhvit Electrification.
Aibel will also undertake further upgrades of existing systems at Hammerfest LNG to extend its life until 2050.
Equinor chief procurement officer Mette H Ottøy said: “Aibel has been one of our main suppliers for Hammerfest LNG since the start-up in 2007. They know the plant well, have set up a local department in Hammerfest, and have solid experience from other major modification projects on plants while on stream.”
